About five tonnes of ammonium nitrate, used for making explosives, were seized from a lorry at Walayar check post on Sunday and the driver of the vehicle was arrested, police said.

The seizure was made during a routine check. The consignment was being transported without proper documents to Kerala, police said.

Investigations were on how the vehicle, coming from Chennai, had escaped different check posts enroute, police said.
