The Bharatiya Janata Party, on Monday, took exception to blaming right-wing groups for the assassination of M.M. Kalburgi based on a mere tweet.

When his comments were sought on the allegations against right-wing groups, in the wake of the hate tweet by an alleged Bajrang Dal activist, BJP State spokesperson S. Suresh Kumar said it was irresponsible to come to such a conclusion as the inquiry was yet to begin.

Expressing shock over Kalburgi’s death, he demanded that the culprits be traced at the earliest and termed the murder as “unfortunate”.

Mr. Kumar said it was a matter of concern that the trend of attacking reputed scholars had taken place in Karnataka. He demanded that the government take stern measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents. He highlighted the need to provide elaborate police security to other rationalists.

The BJP leader welcomed the government’s decision to seek a CBI probe into the episode.
