Professor Peter Ronald deSouza, Director of Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla gets his second term as Director of the Institute here on Wednesday. Professor deSouza, whose term is to end in December this year, had assumed the charge of Director in the year 2007.

Before him Professor Mrinal Miri had also served for two terms as Director in 1996.

After the clearance from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Professor B.L. Mungekar, Chairman of the Governing Body of the Institute, made the announcement in the 135th meeting of the governing body held in New Delhi on Tuesday.

In the last three years, the Institute has been able to carve out a unique place in the scholarly circles of the country.

In the coming years, the focus of the Institute would be to further strengthen its academic programme and to mark its presence at the international level, said Prof. deSouza.
