Suspected Maoists shot dead another Communist Party of India (Marxist) supporter in the Lalgarh region of West Bengal's Paschim Medinipur district late on Wednesday – hours after blowing up a vehicle carrying CRPF personnel and killing five of them.

The victim, Gurucharan Mahato, was a retired primary school teacher and lived at the Kaliam village near Jhargram town.

According to the police, Mr. Mahato was abducted from his house by a group of 10 to 15 persons late on Wednesday and his bullet-riddled body was found near his house on Thursday.

A Maoist poster lying near the body claimed that he was killed for his party affiliation.

Maoists have announced that they would observe “kala divas” from May 27 to June 2 in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and Chhattisgarh in protest against the alleged atrocities perpetrated on innocent tribal people by the State governments and the Centre through security operations.
