Stating that a cable television operator is refusing to provide the free set top box provided by the government and is insisting to purchase private company set top box, residents from Karatankadu in Lakkapuram panchayat submitted petition to the Collector here on Monday.

They said that they were living in the area for many years and the operator is insisting to buy the set top boxes that ranges from ₹ 600 to ₹ 800. Despite the issue taken up with the Special Tahsildar, Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited (TACTV), the operator continues to insist on buying the set top boxes. The operator is informing the residents that the government set top boxes is of poor quality and insist on buying the private company set top boxes, the petition said.

The petition said that many operators in the district are bringing bad name to the government and wanted action against them.

The petition wanted the administration to monitor the distribution of government set top boxes to the subscribers so that private companies do not reap abundant profit.
