Sterlite employees protest

Employees of Vedanta’s Sterlite copper smelter unit at Thoothukudi, along with family members on Thursday staged a demonstration against the "baseless rumours and false propaganda” being spread by a section against its expansion plans. They were holding placards with slogans like "Don't spoil our livelihood", "Know the truth, shed fears" to press their demand.

Day eight of the Games kicked  off on a sunny morning with badminton preliminaries, shooting, lawn bowls and table tennis, while there are medals on the athletics track, mountain biking, diving and beach volleyball.

 The Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) navigation satellite IRNSS-1I, on board the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C41), lifts off at the Satish Dawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on Thursday.

Navigation satellite IRNSS-1I was launched early morning on Thursday from Sriharikota.

Eighth in the series, the 1425- kg satellite completes the first phase of the Indian regional navigation constellation, K. Sivan, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said after a precise flight that put in a precise, intended initial orbit.

A FIFA evaluation committee wrapped up its visit to Atlanta on Wednesday, checking out possible venues for the 2026 World Cup.

The evaluation committee has already visited Mexico City, and plans stops in New York/New Jersey and Toronto. The committee toured Mercedes-Benz Stadium, one of the proposed venues for the joint bid from the United States, Canada and Mexico.  FIFA will select the winning bid in June. Morocco is the only other contender.
