As many as 31 people died overnight in different districts of Uttar Pradesh taking the toll to 141 as intense cold conditions continued unabated in several parts of the State.
While five persons each died in cold related incidents in Deoria and Maharajganj, four deaths each were reported from Siddharth Nagar and Bhadoi, two each from Pratapgarh, Kushinagar, Basti, Jaunpur and Ghazipur and one each from Lucknow, Sitapur and Muzaffarnagar, taking the toll to 141 this winter, official sources said here on Tuesday.
Agra, which recorded a minimum temperature of 5.4 degree Celsius this morning, was the coldest place in the State, followed by Fatehgarh, where temperature hovered around 6.2 degree C, Met department officials said.
In Kanpur, mercury hovered around 10.4 degree C, whereas Gorakhpur recorded 11.2 degree C, they said.
Varanasi recorded a minimum of 9.6 degree C, whereas in Jhansi, minimum temperature hovered around 8.2 degree C, which was one degree below normal.
The capital Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 14.3 degree C, which was nine notches below normal, the officials said.
