With summer at its peak, poultry farmers were asked to provide vitamins E and C to birds to increase their immunity.
A press release from Agromet Field Unit of Veterinary College and Research Institute and Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, said that the sky will be party cloudy and dry weather to continue. Maximum and minimum temperatures respectively will be 41 degree Celsius and 28 degree Celsius.
Wind speed will be around 4 km per hour, mostly from South East. As both day and night temperature continue to show maximum, heat stroke will prevail in birds. Since birds remain exposed to high temperatures for the past two weeks, feed intake and egg production have come down significantly. Water, feed and bird management are critical for their control. Hence use vitamin E and C to increase their immunity, the release added.
Post mortem examinations on birds brought for diagnostic purpose at Poultry Disease Diagnosis and Surveillance Laboratory in the institute revealed death of birds due heat stress. Hence, poultry farmers are advised to use foggers and follow summer management.
