Rose Show begins in Udhagamandalam

Thousands of tourists paid a visit to the Ooty Rose Garden on Saturday, as the 15th Rose Show kicked off.

The Nilgiris District Collector, P. Sankar, inaugurated the show.

The main attraction at the show this year is the Bharatanatyam poses made of roses put up by the Horticulture Departments in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, Erode, Tirunelveli, and Tiruchy districts.

The departments from Krishnagiri district put up a giant Alphonso mango of roses.

A rocket and a pigeon were put up by the Salem and Madurai districts.

The crowd-puller was a selfie-spot, around 15-ft-long, and and 10-ft-high, made of 31,000 roses. Hundreds of tourists queued up to take pictures and selfies with the massive exhibit in the background.

Joint Director of Horticulture, N. Mani, said that more than 1 lakh roses were on display. More than 12,000 people visited the garden on Saturday.

M. Ramesh who came to the Nilgiris from Kanyakumari along with his friends said that the rose show exceeded their expectations.

Spice show

A three-day-long Spice Show is on at the St. Thomas Higher Secondary School grounds in Gudalur. More than 4,000 people have visited the show after it was inaugurated on Friday.

A 17-ft-long helicopter made of cloves, cardamom, coriander, fenugreek, pepper, and nutmeg was the major attraction. The Spice Show will continue till Monday, and the Rose Show till Sunday.
