RI for sexual assault of minor girl

Mahila Court Judge (in-charge) A. Mohammed Jiyaputheen on Wednesday sentenced V. Ganesan, a painter, to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl at Avinashi in 2015.

Special Public Prosecutor V. Parimala said Ganesan was charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and for Section 366 (kidnapping) of Indian Penal Code.

The judge also slapped a five years RI under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as the victim belonged to the Scheduled Castes.

“All the sentences will run concurrently. Ganesan had already undergone 790 days in prison after he was arrestred,” said Mrs. Parimala.
