Nearly 2,000 take part in the first cyclothon to spread awareness of clean India

The young and the old came together in the first edition of the Puduvai Cyclothon on Sunday to raise awareness about the Clean India campaign.

The event was organised by the Tourism Department and the Rotary Club of Puducherry.

Tourism Minister P. Rajavelu flagged off the event on the Beach Road in the presence of Srikanth, president of Rotary Club of Puducherry.

Over 2,000 cyclists of various age groups participated in the event.

The event comprised two categories — the full cyclothon of 24 km for youth and the half cyclothon of 14 km for children. The participants also took a pledge to keep the city clean.

The cyclists pedalled through Muthialpet clock tower, East Coast Road, Maraimalaiadigal Salai, Indira Gandhi sports stadium, Ariyankuppam before winding up at Vaishnavapuram.

The event also had a cash prize of Rs. 2,500 each for 40 participants who were selected through a draw of lots. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy gave away the prizes to the participants.
