August 07, 2016 04:42 am | Updated 04:42 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Tamil writers, artists and representatives of voluntary organisations in Puducherry on Saturday condemned the removal of the Dean of Pondicherry Central University in connection with the magazine row.

S. Ramachandran of Progressive Writers’ Association said the university should lift the ban on the magazine immediately and distribute it. The management should also reinstate P. Moorthy, Professor, Department of Politics and International Studies, as the Dean of Students’ Welfare.

“The university should allow students to be critical of the government. It is their fundamental right. We condemn the action of the university administration,” he said.

In the press statement, he said that communal and casteist forces with the backing of political powers have attacked the students who had brought out this magazine. The students continued to face threats and this was highly condemnable, he said.
