The second ever World Halal Day and the first such event in India is being held here on November 1 and 2 with delegates from across the globe conferring on various aspects and potential of adopting the Arabic principle of ethics in trade and business.
The participants’ list includes CEOs of Halal-certified companies, entrepreneurs, environmental scientists and social activists.
Former Justice Minister from Kuwait, Jamal Al-Shehab, is scheduled to be the chief guest.
‘Misunderstood concept’
“Halal is a misunderstood or under-appreciated concept, especially in India. Though it has a theological basis, Halal represents universal values,” said Mohamed Jinna, chairman of the Singapore-based United World Halal Development, which is hosting the two-day event.
“We hope to promote fuller understanding of the principle of Halal and share the global experience of how Halal certification turned a springboard for success for companies across the world,” Mr. Jinna said.
Halal Lifestyle Festival
A Halal Lifestyle Festival showcasing over 60 Indian Halal-certified items ranging from biscuits to beauty products is also being held as part of the event.
Apart from bringing more international tourists to Puducherry, and possibly foreign investments into the manufacture of Halal products, organisers are also partnering with the local government for making the city “hunger-free” and a clean and green capital by 2030, Mr. Jinna said.
