For the next two days, you can wish ‘Bon Appetit’ and contribute to a cause by devouring your favourite dish. The three-day food festival organised by Pondicherry Heritage Round Table 167 that began on Friday at Old Port in Puducherry is raising funds to build classrooms at government schools, desilt ponds in Puducherry region and do other community service activities.
At least 55 food stalls have been put up, including Dindigul Thalapakkati, Cream Center, Indisca, Nuts ‘n’ Spices, Vivekanandha Coffee, K.C.Das from Chennai and other leading restaurants and hotels from Puducherry.
Inaugurating ‘Bon Appetit – Eat for a Cause’ food festival on Friday, Chief Minister V.Narayanasamy said that it is the responsibility of the government to encourage Pondicherry Heritage Round Table 167 for organising a unique food festival for a cause.
“They have distributed books to the students, dialysis machines and selflessly worked for the social cause,” he said.
Mr. Narayanasamy underlined that Puducherry was flourishing as a tourist destination. “There are tourists not just from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh or Kerala but thousands of tourists coming to Puducherry from France, England and Germany as well,” he said.
He added that besides being a safe destination for tourists, Puducherry also offers wide range of cuisines from south Indian, north Indian to continental, Chinese and even Korean food. “Every year, at least 15 lakh tourists visit Puducherry. We are planning to attract at least 20 lakh tourists this year,” he said, adding that Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao has brought more money to tourism here. “The Central government is providing ₹108 crore to develop tourism. We are also planning to create employment through tourism sector,” he said.
