Over 200 residents of Abhishegapakkam blocked traffic on the Thavalakuppam-Maducarai main road here on Tuesday in protest against the lack of basic amenities and the inordinate delay in distribution of house site pattas to eligible persons.

The agitators said that many families in Abhishegapakkam were denied the house site pattas though they had been residing in the area for more than two decades.

The residents pointed out that they had given repeated representations to the authorities concerned over the last one decade highlighting their eligibility to get the pattas.

They also expressed their disappointment over lack of basic amenities in the village. The agitators blocked a stretch of the Thavalakuppam-Maducarai Road and prepared food on the road.

On information, senior revenue and police officials rushed to the spot and pacified them.

They assured that the government would look into their demands following which they withdrew their protest.
