Doctors and nurses of Vriddhachalam Government Hospital went on strike on Tuesday demanding action against a man who manhandled a compounder.

Muthuvel of Pa.Edaikuppam reportedly took his son M.Nithish (2), who had mistakenly consumed rat poison, to the hospital in the early hours on Tuesday. Compounder Lenin was attending to another emergency case at that time.

Before he could complete the task, Muthuvel lost his patience and slapped the former. The child, however, was promptly treated. On information, doctors and nurses struck work and demanded that unless appropriate action was taken against Muthuvel, they would not resume duty.

Following intervention of Revenue and Police officials, doctors and nurses gave up their protest.
