After battling for life for over three days, a minor girl, who was set ablaze by a stalker in her house on Saturday, died at JIPMER here on Wednesday.
The stalker, Senthil of Indira Nagar in Mambalapattu, had hugged the girl after setting himself ablaze.
Senthil and the girl were first admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital at Mundiyambakkam, where Senthil died.
The girl sustained over 70 per cent burns and had been in a critical condition at JIPMER.
Around a year ago, Senthil, a Dalit, had claimed that the girl’s family, who are caste Hindus, had chopped off his arm and leg for falling in love with the girl.
It later emerged that he lost his limbs after he had lain down on the tracks in a state of drunken stupor.
As soon as the news of the girl’s death spread, her family members and relatives in Palayam resorted to a road roko on the Thirukovilur Road, demanding a thorough investigation into the incident and adequate compensation for the family.
They withdrew the protest after senior police officials pacified them.
