Sensing trouble over the release of an annual magazine exhorting campus resistance recently by the Students’ Council on the campus, the administration of Pondicherry Central University has quickly distanced itself from it.

The Pondicherry University Students’ Council released its annual magazine under the name ‘Widerstand’ German for resistance.

The students claimed that the magazine stood in solidarity with the students’ movements in Indian campuses and resistance against draconian laws.

Issuing a press release on Sunday, the university administration said the magazine brought out by the Pondicherry University Students Council tilted ‘Widerstand’ was an activity taken up by the outgoing Students’ Council of Pondicherry University of the academic year 2015-16.

The Assistant Registrar (Public Relations) said, “The views expressed by the authors and the artistes in their articles and creations are purely theirs and the university administration has absolutely no role in the same.”

He added the organisers of the workshop ‘Students Welfare in Digital India: Prospects and Problems’ had invited the Vice Chancellor to inaugurate the workshop and the release of the magazine was an impromptu act of the organisers. The administration supports all the academic endeavours of the students and seeks the cooperation of all concerned in making this University a prime centre of excellence in higher education.

On Thursday, the Dean of Students’ Welfare Prakash Babu, Hyderabad Central University released the magazine in the presence of Pondicherry Vice-Chancellor Anisa Basheer Khan, Dean of Students’ Welfare P. Moorthy and students council members.

Meanwhile, the BJP has announced plans to stage a protest on Monday.
