Puducherry joined the country in celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar on Thursday.
The national leader who ardently fought the caste system throughout his life was remembered on his birth anniversary.
On behalf of the government of Puducherry, the birth anniversary of one of the very few leaders who vociferously deconstructed the hypocrisy of Hindu religion and fought for the annihilation of caste through his action, writings and speeches, was celebrated at the venue of Bharathi Park on Thursday.
Since the model code of conduct was in force, ministers and political party leaders organised separate functions for the celebration. Many paid floral tributes to the architect of the Constitution. This included N. Udayakumar, Director, Directorate of Information and Publicity and E.Kumar, Assistant Director of Information and Publicity.
Educational institutions in Puducherry also organised programmes to mark the occasion. Pondicherry Central University Vice-Chancellor i/c Anisa Basheer Khan garlanded Bharath Ratna B.R.Ambedkar’s statue. M. Ramachandran, Registrar (i/c), K. Tharanikkarasu, Controller of Examinations (i/c), Deans, faculty, officers, staff, members of all association, members of students council, research scholars, students and many officials also attended the function.
The function was organised by M. Sandirane, Liaison Officer, Special Reservation Cell, Pondicherry University, Puducherry.
In Cuddalore, the Neyvel Lignite Corporation celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr.Ambedkar at Neyveli. V.Thangapandian, Director (Power), P. Selvakumar , Director (Planning & Projects) of NLC, garlanded Ambedkar’s bronze statue at Pudukuppam Junction, Neyveli.
Chief Minister N.Rangasamy, Lok Sabha member R.Radhakrishnan, ministers P.Rajavelu, N.G. Pannir Selvame, T.Thiagarajan, G.Nehru, MLA, Congress leaders, AICC general secretary, V.Narayanasamy, former Chief Minister and leader of opposition, V.Vaithilingam and former minister V. Candassamy others workers of the party paid floral tributes.
Besides, the AIADMK leaders led by former Rajya Sabha MP, P. Kannan organised separate functions and paid floral tribute.
