At least two persons have tested positive in NS1 antigen test for dengue in Cuddalore district this month and four persons in the previous month.
A senior official in the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in Cuddalore said: “We have referred one person to Jipmer hospital in Puducherry whose platelet count was 30,000. Now, the patient is recovering well and the platelets count has increased to 50,000. The two NS1 antigen tested cases might be false positive for dengue fever. Hence, we have sent the samples for further analysis. However, none of the cases reported so far in Cuddalore are haemorrhagic dengue fever,” said the official. The official said for the next four months, people having fever should get treated in a government hospital instead of going to quacks or taking self-medication.
“Deaths due to dengue occur only due to delay in treatment. If people get diagnosed early, they could be treated immediately. Only a doctor would be able to diagnose and treat,” said the official.
