The e-way bill system has been launched on a trial basis in the Union Territory as per the mandate of the Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, the Commercial Taxes Department has said.

The GST Act mandates that every registered dealer and transporter, who transports goods exceeding the value of ₹50,000 to other States, compulsorily generate e-way bill online at the portal http://ewaybill.nic.in.

The trialling of e-way billing is on the basis of the decision taken at a recent GST Council meeting.

According to the Commercial Taxes Department, the dealers in the UT can enrol on the portal and generate e-way bill for the inter-State movement of goods. The e-way bill will be mandatory from February 1.

In the first instance, the taxpayer/transporter needs to register on the portal with the GSTIN allotted to them and generate user name and password to use the e-way bill system.

The unregistered transporter not having GSTIN, can enrol by providing PAN details, Aadhaar details and generate user name and password to use the e-way bill system.

Guidelines available

Detailed guidelines, user manual, FAQ, computer based tutorial are available on the portal. The same may be utilised in case of any doubts or clarifications.

Besides, dealers/transporters may also contact the help desk functioning in the ground floor of the Commercial Taxes Department, 100 feet road, Ellaipillaichavady, Puducherry for any assistance.

Dealers can also contact the toll free number 1800-425-1717.

Help desks are also functioning in the offices situated in the outlying regions of Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, the Commercial Taxes Department said.
