Nearly ten families gathered at Nonankuppam boat house recently for a free boat trip to Paradise Beach. It was a gift from the traffic police in Puducherry for wearing helmet.
To encourage people to wear helmets while riding, the traffic police had identified two-wheeler riders wearing helmets and collected their names and mobile numbers over a period of four days. At least 10 people were chosen through lots and the winners along with four of their family members got a free boat trip from Nonankuppam boat house to Paradise Beach on Sunday.
The 10 winners along with their family members not only enjoyed a free boat trip but also relished the special lunch which the organisers provided.
Traffic Police Inspector C. Maran said, “There will be many such programmes to encourage more people to wear helmets,” he said.
The Transport Department in Puducherry has been conducting awareness programmes on the importance of wearing helmets for the school and college students.
