The Commercial Taxes Department has urged traders to avail of the toll-free line established to clarify doubts regarding the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime which came into effect on July 1.

In a press note, the Department pointed out that to facilitate the smooth transition to GST and to provide clarifications on queries regarding the tax, a dedicated toll-free number 1800-425-1717 had been introduced.

A helpdesk is also functioning in the department to assist and answer the queries of the dealers. Traders and consumers are requested to make use of these facilities for seeking any clarifications.

This apart, dealers can also use WhatsApp and social media platforms of the Commercial Taxes Department for clarifications and queries. The WhatsApp/social media details of the department are as follows:

The Goods and Services Tax Act, Rules and all notifications, as well as procedures for issuing tax invoices under GST, have been uploaded on the department’s website.

A handbook on GST in English and Tamil, providing brief guidelines on registration, returns, input tax credit, composition scheme etc., is also available on the website. Dealers are requested to update their software for issue of invoice in compliance with the provisions of the GST Act and Rules. Until such time, the dealers may issue manual invoices indicating all the mandatory details.
