Traders who come under the banner of Puducherry Bus stand Traders’ Association opened their shops at Puducherry Bus Stand in M.M. Salai and went about business as usual on Tuesday morning, after having downed their shutters the previous day in protest against alleged harassment by Puducherry municipal authorities.

Kathiresan. G, President, Puducherry Bus Stand Traders’ Association, said that they met the Lieutenant Governor, Chief Minister and Local Administration Minister on Monday evening and apprised them of the situation.

“After discussions, they promised that all our demands would be met and asked us to open the shops without fear,” he said.

He added that the traders met Senior Superintendent of Police on Tuesday morning and they were ensured that parking space would be provided and all the demands met.

He added that all the traders have promised to sell the products on MRP rates and they have also displayed stickers announcing that the products would be sold on MRP rates and customers can contact 1031 helpline number in case of any complaints.

The traders complained that the municipal authorities were not permitting their vehicles to unload goods inside the bus stand. Instead, they were instructed to manually carry the goods.
