A delegation from the French Consulate, Delhi, made a courtesy call on Chief Minister N. Rangasamy at his chamber here on Tuesday.

The delegation led by Francois Vandeville, Co-operation Counsellor, French Consulate, Delhi, and Jeany Vesgillon, Director of French Institute, New Delhi, held discussions with the Chief Minister on tapping the potential in different sectors in Puducherry.

Mr. Francois Vandeville told reporters that France wanted to mainstream and reinforce its presence in Puducherry not only for historical reasons but also for future development.

“We believe that Puducherry can help us outreach our future not only in the field of education but in other areas also. The idea is to develop the French International Lycee Francais de Pondicherry here which has been offering several international programmes. The school is not only for students from France but has to serve Indian citizens all over the country,” he said.

Earlier the delegation sought additional land from the Puducherry government to expand its activities.

The Chief Minister said that the government would be glad to respond to the plea and asked the delegation to inform the government as to what would be the requirement of the site for proposed expansion. Philippe Janvier Kamiyama, Consul General of France in Puducherry, was also present.
