Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol.Thirumavalavan has taken exception to the sudden promulgation of Section 30 (2) of the Police Act in Marakkanam and Brahmadesam in Villupuam district just prior to his visit there to attend certain functions organised by the party on Sunday.
Mr Thirumavalavan told The Hindu that it had now become for the police to prevent him from attending any of the functions on the pretext of maintaining law and order.
He alleged that both the Tamil Nadu and the Puducherry governments had been imposing unwarranted restrictions, impeding his free movement.
Of late, it had become particularly difficult for him to visit any of the places in northern districts of Tamil Nadu.
Though the party was getting prior permission from the local police for the conduct of any event, it had become habitual for the police to stop them at the nick of time by instructions from higher ups.
Mr Thirumavalavan said that on Sunday (February 23) he was scheduled to hand over monetary compensation to the family of a deceased partyman at Arungunam and to attend a house-warming as well as flag hoisting ceremonies at Pallithennal.
