Three-day Kamban Vizha begins today

A festival to commemorate Kamban, the Tamil poet of Chola period, will begin on Friday at Kamban Kalaiarangam. The three-day festival is organised by Kamban Kazhagam.

The 12{+t}{+h}century poet had composed Kamba Ramayanam which is considered as one of the important epics in Tamil literature. Kamban Kazhagam president N. Govindasamy Mudaliar, treasurer Selva Ganapathy and joint secretary Kalyana Sundaram have been organising this annual event for the past 50 years.

“Every year, the Kamban Vizha is held on May 12, 13 and 14. Due to elections, the programme has been rescheduled to May 6, 7 and 8. The programme on the first day will be headed by V.Ramasubramanian, Madras High Court Judge,” said Gunavathy Maindhan, official spokesman, Puducherry Kamban Kazhagam. All the events in the festival are based on Kamba Ramayanam . This year, poet and lyricist Vairamuthu will take part in event on the third day.

The programme has been rescheduled owing to the impending Assembly elections
