September 19, 2014 09:43 am | Updated 09:43 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Thursday announced in the Assembly the suspension of three officials of the Revenue Department – a Deputy Tahsildar, Revenue Inspector and a Village Administrative Officer for having certified a girl student from Tamil Nadu as a native of Puducherry to enable her to join a private medical college here under the Government quota.

Making a suo motu announcement in the Assembly, Mr. Rangasamy said the girl student from Dindigul in Tamil Nadu had later vacated the MBBS seat and she was then allotted a seat in the private medical college and efforts are on to provide the seat to another student.

AIADMK Deputy Legislature Leader A. Anbalagan welcomed the Chief Minister’s announcement and demanded the government to ascertain whether the certificates of seven more candidates who had joined private medical colleges under the Government quota through the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) were genuine.

Replying to the member, Mr. Rangasamy said the government had ordered for a detailed probe by the Department of Higher Education and the certificates presented by all candidates who had joined professional colleges under the Government quota this year would be screened.

It may be recalled that AIADMK Deputy Legislature Party leader A Anbalagan had presented a complaint in the House on Tuesday alleging that a girl student who did her schooling till class X in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, had submitted a fake ration card and got admission to the MBBS course under the government quota in a professional college in Puducherry.
