Three held, iron rods seized

Police have busted a criminal breach of trust case involving theft of an industrial consignment of iron rods by a gang operating out of Coimbatore.

Puducherry police arrested three accused persons and have so far recovered four tonnes of iron rods and the lorry worth Rs. 8 lakh.

According to Rajiv Ranjan, SSP, a case of ‘criminal breach of trust’ had been registered at Mettupalayam police station on the complaint of Maruthamalai, proprietor of M/s. Puducherry Transport, Villianur, Puducherry after a consignment of 16 tonnes of iron rods, booked by Sumangala Steel Company, Mettupalayam, Puducherry, intended for its sister firm at Palakkad (Kerala) did not reach the destination in time.

Later, the complainant came to know that the driver and the cleaner had vanished with the consignment. Investigations led by SP (North) Rachna Singh, Inspector Nagarajan, SIs Vetrivel and Kumar led to the arrest of

Lokeshkumar (cleaner) in Coimbatore.

Surveillance up

The lorry with iron rods was recovered and the police mounted surveillance for the other absconding accused.

According to police, the driver of the lorry, Saravanakumar and his uncle (being the lorry owner), Balasubramanian alias Balan were arrested on July 28 and August 1 and 3.5 tonne of iron rods were also seized.

Sampathkumar, a close relative of Balan and the latter had hatched a plan to commit the crime in collusion with Saravanakumar and Lokeshkumar.

Measures are now under way to recover the remaining property.
