The people of Karnatham village in Vridhachalam in Cuddalore district, are ill at ease with the sudden media attention they have been receiving after the Supreme Court passed an order sentencing Calcutta High Court Judge C.S.Karnan to six months imprisonment.

While a few women in the colony, where Justice Karnan’s ancestral house is located, were not willing to share why the people there fixed black flags in every house , some were ready to discuss their fondness towards the judge who has been sentenced to jail.

Besides sharing memories of the judge’s visits to the village, they wished the villagers were united in expressing their anger against the judgment.

TNSTC staff face Bedi ire

Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Saturday pulled up staff of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation for spoiling the beauty of a well maintained road by indiscriminately dumping garbage.

Ms. Bedi was cycling on Ambedkar Salai to Kanagam Eri as part of her routine weekend visit, when she noticed a bus belonging to TNSTC being cleaned in front of the depot on Ambedkar Salai and the garbage dumped on the well maintained Road.

She was shocked and pulled up the TNSTC staff. This would be the first warning. If this continued stringent action would be taken, she said.

Ms Bedi said that she would not allow this to happen as the entire stretch would become a fish market if it was not properly maintained. The Municipal Corporation is like a home and the Commissioner should function as the head of the family.

The entire municipal machinery had put in strenuous work for the last one month to ensure cleanliness of the road. But now everything has been damaged. This cannot be tolerated, she said.
