Drawing from the characters of Indian epics, Ashok Kumar Bhatia, a seasoned senior manager, gives management lessons to survive in the corporate world. His book ‘Surviving in the Corporate Jungle’ was launched in Puducherry at an event organised by People for Pondicherry’s Heritage on Thursday, nearly a year after it was launched in Portugese.

“Bosses should be met half way through,” said Mr. Bhatia, who has compiled tips to survive in the corporate world. He said his book had been written entirely based on his four decades of experience working in the corporate sector.

Mr. Bhatia obtained his post-graduate degree in physics from Delhi University and MBA from the University Business School of Punjab University. His stint with Tata International, HCL, Hidesign has provided the managerial wisdom that he shares in his book. An avid blogger, Mr. Bhatia presents insights for managers at all levels – the aspiring kind, practising and the tired kind, even for the retired persons.

R. Mananathan, Chairman, Manatec Electronics, who launched the book said the author had cited examples of women while providing management tips. “According to the author, Innovation and Imagination are the key words for success,” he said.

Addressing the audience, Mr. Bhatia said that management was taken to be a serious subject but it need not be so.

“Management is an art and also science. My idea was to condense my experience and share with others who might be facing similar problems and issues in handling situations where they work. This is also for business owners who are looking for some enlightenment,” he said. This book provides answers for the questions on how to one handle bosses and secretaries and the scientific laws which govern interpersonal relations.

Uplifting read

For hassled business executives and entrepreneurs, relentlessly chasing goals and deadlines, Mr. Bhatia´s punchy prose — infused with a Wodehousean humour — should come as a relaxing and uplifting read.

Launched in the Portuguese market in March 2016, this book is now available globally. Based in Puducherry in India, he is a well known person in the management circles. He can also be found at www.ashokbhatia.com .
