Teachers’ plea to organise cleanliness campaign

July 27, 2014 12:20 pm | Updated 12:20 pm IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Ahead of Chief Minister N. Rangasamy’s birthday that falls on August 4, the Retired Government School Teachers’ Association has appealed that splurging on cut-outs, banners and hoardings be put aside, and organisers focus, instead, on a weeklong cleanliness campaign.

Jayaraman, coordinator of the Association, said: “The areas around bars, coffee shops, schools and hospitals have become dumpyards. We request the NR Congress cadre to focus on keeping the city clean.”

Last week, P. Parthiban, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (South) in Villianur, passed an order, under Section 144 of the Cr.PC, prohibiting cut-outs, banners, and wall paintings in rural areas by political parties and caste-based organisations.
