: In an initiative aimed at making learning in schools more interactive and experiential, Lenovo India has partnered with Guru-G, a non-governmental organisation by equipping teachers of three government schools in Puducherry with tablets.
As part of Lenovo’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, the A-1000 tablets were distributed to 15 teachers of government middle schools in Poornakuppam, Nallavadu and Koonichampattu.
The tablets are preloaded with applications designed by social organisations to enable the teachers in engaging the students through interactive learning.
Subjects such as Mathematics and Science will be covered initially and then modules for subjects like Social Studies, English etc will be covered to supplement the content of delivery.
Vinod Srivastava, Director, Lenovo India (Integrated Operations) said that the unique initiative had been launched for the first time in the country in Puducherry. This initiative will help improve the quality of education in government and marginalised schools especially in the rural sector.
Guru-G, a non-profit organisation has developed applications which enable teachers to learn very fast. When it is added with technology it would be friendly and easy to educate children.
“We plan to have an external agency to monitor the effectiveness of the programme in Puducherry and incorporate changes in future plans. The synergy between Guru-G and Lenovo’s user centric technology will equip the teachers and positively impact children in these government schools,” he said.
The tablet comes with an 8 GB internal storage and supports a micro SD card with upto 32 GB capacity.
Engaging learning experience
Shivananda Salgame, Co-founder and Director Social Business at Guru-G learning labs said that the tablet based platform empowers teachers to deliver an engaging learning experience.
The platform acts as a classroom companion and works with the teachers to develop content and minimises their preparation.
Guru-G converts existing teacher resources into guided lesson plans that provide real-time guidance on different ways in which a topic can be taught.
Mr. Salgame said that the platform had been successfully implemented in over 350 schools located near Tiger reserves in five states.
The content is available in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarathi and Kannada.
Guru-G has been specifically designed for schools where access to internet and technology is limited.
Teachers can use all the features and the usage data will be stored offline in the tablet until the next time it is connected to internet.
Guru-G also tracks different methods used on the tablet enabling authorities to easily monitor for incorrect usage.
