Jipmer has launched a three-week-long Special Swachhta Drive with health and sanitary focus on patients and bystanders.

The drive, on the call of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, will extend to October 5.

Jipmer Director Dr. S. C. Parija, in the presence of the Medical Superintendent Dr. J. Balachander and the Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. M.J.E. Ambroise, flagged off a rally to launch the campaign recently.

The rally featured over 100 volunteers, including students of St. Patrick Higher Secondary School, Saradambal Nagar, Puducherry and staff of Jipmer. The rally emphasised personal hygiene, environmental sanitation and other health aspects.

The lineup of programmes include awareness sessions on hand hygiene for the patient and attenders, educative talk on health aspects for sanitary workers, mass cleaning in Rural Health Centre, awareness programme for bio-medical waste handlers, launch of a source reduction survey for dengue in Jipmer campus, cleaning/fogging/dog-catching in campus, sprucing up of the day and nightcare shelter, and public toilets.

Volunteers will also distribute pamphlets on water-borne diseases. A skit on Swachh Bharath and taking Swachhta Pledge are scheduled on the concluding day of the campaign.
