Students want full-time VC for university

August 10, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:24 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

A section of students of Pondicherry University affiliated to Akil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the main gate of the University campus protesting against the decision of the administration to allow the circulation of the magazine Widerstand on the campus after a week long freeze on its distribution.

The students also raised slogans against the administration and demanded the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to remove the Vice-Chancellor (in charge) and appoint a full time VC for the post.

Double-standards

A spokesperson of the ABVP alleged that the University administration was indulging in double-standards in the magazine row. While the Registrar had promised to take action against those who had brought out the magazine, the authorities instead went ahead and handed over the keys of the Student Council room to the students.

Most of the apparatus and instruments used by students in Science departments are not functional. While the administration has cited paucity of funds they have sanctioned Rs.3.5 lakh for the magazine, the students claimed.
