A team of structural engineers and experts from Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC) and various line departments on Thursday inspected the multistorey building at Dhanaraj Udayar Street to assess its structural stability for submitting a report to the Madras High Court.

The team led by S. Kothandaraman, an expert in Structural Engineering, Structural Distress, Retrofitting & Materials Technology of PEC, T. Sundararajan and G Gerald Moses inspected the structure and conducted various tests with specially designed equipments to ascertain its structural soundness and other parameters. The team will give its opinion to the High Court.

It may be recalled that the Puducherry Planning Authority (PPA) had temporarily stopped the demolition of the structure on a stay granted by the Madras High Court.

The PPA had started demolition of the third and fourth floors of the apartment on Sunday after the owner failed to respond to the notice served by the PPA. But the builder approached the Madras High Court which granted a stay on PPA’s proceedings.
