Protesting against the Union Government for having issued an order to all departments to use Hindi language compulsorily in all social media communications, a group of pro-Tamil activists on Thursday blackened the letters inscribed on the signboard of a post office near Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
The protesters, representing fronts including Gokul Gandhinath of Periyar Viduthalai Dravidar Kazhagam, Pons. Ramesh of Poorangal Iyakkam, Deenadayalan of Periyar Sinthanayalar Iyakkam, Mahesh of Tamil Tamilar Iyakkam took out a procession from the place near the State Legislative Assembly towards Sri Aurobindo Ashram Post office.
They raised slogans against the Union Government and also urged the State government to drop the implementation of CBSE pattern in the schools.
A few of them blackened the signboard containing Hindi letters.
Immediately after dispersing the protesters, the police wiped out the black ink from the board. The Grand Bazaar Police arrested fifteen activists in this connection.
