This is a bit like an offbeat gadget designed by “Q” in those James Bond movies; sans villains in the sci-fi script.

So, imagine, getting off the train from Puducherry that has just reached Bengaluru. Once you step out and into the parking lot, you look at your app, which shows a red car with 2134 in the number plate. You locate the car and as you near it, the door unlocks by itself, sensing your mobile’s NFC (Near Field Communication).

Once inside, you find a keypad where the ignition key insert area is supposed to be. Once you enter in the number combination shown in your app, the car starts and until you leave it off somewhere and hit the ‘End Ownership’ button in your app, the car is yours.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if such a system is available where you don’t even need to get the keys handed over in order to hire a self driven vehicle?

Pilot project

This is the pilot project of a group of students at R&D department of Sri Ganesh College of Engineering. They arrived at this proof of concept gadget stack with the help of APPOETS, a San Francisco-based IT firm.

APPOETS is helping the students do a beta launch for one of its customers in the UK.

Second startup

If the app goes well, it would become the second student startup formed by the student entrepreneurs of Sri Ganesh College.

Calvin, a technology analyst says that this venture has the opportunity to become the next Uber, which started as a similar pilot project, solving a big problem in the automotive industry.
