Puducherry Scheduled Tribes People’s Federation on Friday staged a protest in front of the Head Post Office in Puducherry condemning the Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi’s comments on “ex-criminal” tribes.
Members of the Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, Gramapura Padukappu Iyakkam, Samuga Peravai, and many other organisations joined the protest.
“We condemn Ms. Bedi’s comment on tribes in twitter. We want her to withdraw the comment. These statements only slur the dignity of the members of tribal communities,” said K. Ramkumar, president, Puducherry Scheduled Tribes People’s Federation.
People of tribal community from different parts of Puducherry joined the protest. They said: “Till the Lieutenant Governor accepts her fault and withdraws the comment, we will continue our protest involving all the political parties.”
