JAL, an organisation based in Spain, working for the rehabilitation of leprosy affected patients and their families on Saturday organised a rally of children who have received scholarship as part of the organisation’s Golden Jubilee in 2016.

Montserrat Perez Lopez, dermatologist and president of JAL, said that the organisation was working on several projects in Tamil Nadu related to the rehabilitation of leprosy patients, including those in Puducherry and Malavanthangal.

Dr. Lopez said that JAL started working with street children and children from the gypsy community eight years ago by supporting their education.

“We have felt that education is very important to change the world and the children supported by us are now in various other fields.”

JAL has been covering their basic needs of maintenance, accommodation and medical assistance besides taking care of their future through early education.

For the last 16 years, JAL has been providing scholarship to socially handicapped children and children of leprosy patients, she added.

French Consul General, Philippe Janvier-Kamiyama, Chief Secretary Manoj Parida, R. Ananth, India representative for JAL and Dr. N. Balassoupramanian, Director, CERTH-India participated.
