In a swift response, police nabbed six persons in connection with the kidnap of a 15-year-old boy after he was secured on Monday evening. They are on the lookout for one more accused. On Monday morning, Kalpana, resident of 12 cross street, Krishna Nagar complained to Lawspet Police alleging that her son Harish Chandran, was kidnapped by unknown persons on his way to school. Subsequently, the alleged kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs. 30 lakh.

Narrating the sequence of the operation, the Director General of Police P. Kamaraj attributed the successful cracking of the case to a well planned and coordinated approach by the investigating teams.

The operation was led by teams under the supervision T. Bairavasamy, Superintendent of Police (North) along with Circle Inspectors. According to police, the kidnappers had kept calling Kalpana asking for the ransom amount and gave different locations for delivery. The kidnappers adopted the shifting tactic to escape the police dragnet. “We also sent our men in plain clothes along with the person carrying the ransom to identify the kidnappers,” Mr. Kamaraj said.

“When the kidnappers learnt about police surveillance, they decided to abandon the child. Initially, the boy was kept in a house of Perumakkal, a village located between Tindivanam and Marakkanam. Later, one of the kidnappers dropped him near the Kiliyanur Bus Stop (He was also given a sum of Rs. 100). From there, the boy reached Muruga Theatre by bus around 6.30 pm and he was rescued from there” he said.

The accused were identified as E. Venkatesan (32), D. Kannan (27), R. Surveswar alias Saru (34), R. Selvam (34), S. Thirupathi (28), A. Ilayraja (34). The police also seized a car and a bike used for the offence.

“One more accused named Madhan is absconding. A police team has been deployed to nab him,” the DGP added.
