The Port Department on Saturday hoisted the flag denoting a ‘signal 1’ at the Cuddalore port indicating a low pressure area formation that could intensify into a deep depression in the next 24 hours. A Port official said the flag was raised after the alert was sounded by the Meteorological Department in Chennai about a low pressure area over the south-east Bay of Bengal.

The system is most likely to intensify further into a deep depression during next 24 hours.

It is most likely to move north-northeastwards towards Myanmar coast during next 72 hours, the official said. The weather advisory called for hoisting ‘signal 1’ at Puducherry Port.
