Seven persons were killed on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway at Ratnagiri on Sunday after three cars were involved in a pile-up, one behind the other. Four persons lost their lives on the spot.

The accident occurred when the driver of a car from Bengaluru in trying to avoid hitting a two-wheeler on the road, slammed the brakes.

Two cars travelling behind crashed into each other, while a lorry rammed the last car.

While four persons in the three cars lost their lives on the spot, three persons succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Ravichandran, who was riding the two-wheeler, too lost his life. Three persons are in a critical state and are under treatment.
