The police on Sunday nabbed seven persons, including five juveniles, for their involvement in a series of chain-snatching incidents and recovered 11 sovereigns of jewellery, two cellphones, two motorcycles and a knife from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Ramanatham Inspector Sudhakar were conducting vehicle-check at Kallur near Avatti when they found the juveniles moving about in a suspicious manner. When the team stopped and questioned them, they all gave conflicting replies.

Interrogation revealed that the seven were involved in eight incidents of chain-snatching in Ramanatham, Thittakudi, Avinankudi and Sirupakkam in Cuddalore district. The police arrested Karthikeyan, 21, of Poornankuppam, Surya alias Poovaraghavan,18, of Thavalakuppam and five other juveniles. The police have launched a search for the three main accused who are at large.
