Second phase of distribution of LED bulbs launched

Electricity Minister T. Thiagarajan on Wednesday launched the second phase of distribution of LED bulbs in three villages- Irulanchandai, Kuruvinatham Pet, Bahour Pet- of Bahour commune.

The minister also inaugurated the “LED Village Campaign program” at Pudhu Nagar, Kanniyakovil. This program includes distribution and replacement of existing high power consuming sodium vapour lamp (SVL)/ Fluorescent lamp (FTL) with LED Street lights.

LED Village Campaign Programme, the energy conservation scheme is supported by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Union Ministry of Power.

The objectives of this scheme is to replace the existing incandescent bulbs in the One House One Bulb (OHOB) households into LED Bulbs and the existing power-consuming street lights with LED street lights in the selected villages.

Under this LED Village Campaign Programme, 1850 number incandescent bulbs have been replaced with LED bulbs and 166 number of Sodium vapour lamp (SVL)/ Fluorescent lamp (FTL) have been replaced with Energy Efficient LED Street Lights.

The project is funded by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), New Delhi, Govt. of India with the project cost of Rs.15.98 lakh.

By employing this project, almost 85 per cent of power can be conserved from the total power usage by the conventional type lamps, said a press release from the Renewable Agency Puducherry.
