Save farm sector: DMK

September 03, 2014 10:21 am | Updated 10:21 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

DMK unit organiser M.A.S. Subramanian on Tuesday criticised the ruling All India NR Congress Government for “ignoring” the welfare of farmers and for “failing” to nurture institutions established to promote farming activities in the Union Territory.

In a release, Dr. Subramanian said as there had been no proper steps to protect agricultural lands, a number of farmers were facing difficulty in carrying on their activities because fertile fields had been converted into residential plots.

He said that the government should address the grievances of farmers and evolve an effective action plan to save the farm sector and farmers.
