Tamil research scholar from Pondicherry University A. Jayabharathi who won the ‘Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar - 2017’ instituted by the Sahitya Akademi was felicitated by Vice-Chancellor Gurmeet Singh.

The award had been presented during the recently held three-day All-India Young Writers’ Festival hosted by the Akademi in Chandigarh.

Refresher course on environmental science

The Human Resource Development Centre of Pondicherry University held the valedictory of the 21-day refresher course on Environmental science and Geosciences on Monday.

University Vice-Chancellor said that courses such as the one organised by HRDC are important in spreading awareness about environmental degradation and health hazards.

As many as 55 participants from all over the country took part in the programme and many felt that the resource persons contributed to enhancing their knowledge and skill set.

Jayakumar, course coordinator, highlighted the main aspects of the course — theoretical approaches to environmental management, Climate Change and Pollution and its impact on human health.

Director-in-charge and , School of Social Sciences and International Studies Venkata Raghotham, and Reader, HRDC Panch Ramalingam, participated.

Annamalai University celebrates Pongal

Students, faculty and staff of Faculty of Agriculture, Annamalai University lit the hearth and cooked Pongal to usher in the harvest festival of Tamil.

Participants turned out in traditional attire for the celebrations organised at the helipad on the campus, and decorated cows, prepared sweet pongal and offered prayers.

Vice-Chancellor S. Manian led the celebrations and gave a special address. He emphasised the significance of Pongal and its farming roots. Registrar K. Arumugam, Dean M.Ravichandran, also participated.
