Role of diet in keeping diabetes at bay stressed

A nutrition awareness programme highlighting the theme of the year, ‘Beat Diabetes,’ was conducted by the Department of Dietetics at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) on Tuesday.

S.C. Parija, Director of JIPMER, inaugurated an exhibition on Health Breakfast Dietary Cuisine and released diabetic diet pamphlets during the programme.

He stressed the importance of diet in managing diabetes and pointed out that the diabetic clinic in JIPMER had been addressing various issues of patients and ensured a comprehensive health care approach.

J. Balachander, Medical Superintendent, JIPMER, stressed on the need for confidence and motivation to live with diabetes and beat it. A health education session on Personalised Therapy of Diabetes, Health Eating to Beat Diabetes and Life style modifications was also held as part of the programme.

Saka Vinod Kumar, officer in-charge of dietetics department, emphasised the nutritious values in the food served to patients in JIPMER. Sadish Kumar Kamalnathan, associate professor of Endocrinology and Madhavi, senior dietician, participated in the event.
