Recognising child leaders

NGOs call for nominations to 10 awards which will be given on Dec 20

In recognition of work done by child leaders, the NGOs, Mughil and Trust for Youth and Leadership (TYCL), have called for nominations to 10 awards which will be given away on December 20 at Kamban Kalaiarangam.

There are six Child Leader Awards for which children in the 10-18 age group in Puducherry can apply, a release from the organisers said. The Mother Teresa Award will be given to children who have taken action in the social sector areas. The Jeroo Billimoria Award will be given to children who have taken a stand on issues of child protection. The Malala Yousafzai Award will be given to children who have encouraged child leadership activities. The Erik Erikson Award will be given to children who have worked in the area of children’s education, sports and arts. The Abdul Kalam Eco-Friendly Child Leader Award recognises children who have taken steps towards environmental conservation. The Nelson Mandela Communicator Award is for children who have made a difference through right communication.

There are also four Child Friendly Awards and these include awards for the family, school, village and media. Nominations for these are invited from families, schools, village leaders and media houses in Puducherry.

Mughil was founded by alumni of the department of Information Technology, Pondicherry Engineering College. TYCL is run by college students from Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.
