While stating that his government was open to any inquiry on Centac admission to postgraduate medical courses in private colleges and deemed universities, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Wednesday said Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi had failed to prove her allegations against the ruling Congress.
To a query at a press conference about Ms. Bedi’s request to the CBI to investigate Centac admission issue, he said the government was open to any inquiry.
The government’s stand on Centac admission had been clearly stated in the Assembly. The High Court, while delivering a judgment on a petition related to the fee structure in deemed universities, had not made any charges against the government on the admission procedure, he said.
Mr. Narayanasamy said he had given it in writing to the Union Health Minister the steps taken by the government on postgraduate medical college admission. In response, the Minister telephoned to him to appreciate the admission process.
The Chief Minister said it had become almost 10 days since he challenged Ms. Bedi to prove her charges that the government had sold 71 seats and that officials and politicians here were corrupt.
“A person sitting in responsible positions should not make unsubstantiated charges,” he said.
Central projects
The Chief Minister said during his three-day visit to the national capital he had met several Union Ministers to discuss infrastructure development projects.
In his meeting with Union Minister for Railways, Suresh Prabhu, he had mooted a proposal to start superfast fully air-conditioned train from here to Chennai and a weekly train to Jaipur. The Minister had agreed to consider the demand, he said.
After the National Democratic Alliance came to power no new projects were sanctioned to the Union Territory, he added.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development had sanctioned ₹46 crore for infrastructure development works in 13 government colleges under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan scheme.
It was the highest allocation made by MHRD to any State in the southern region, he said
Mr. Narayanasamy said he had requested Union Minister for Urban Affairs Venkaiah Naidu and sought 5,000 more houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The Ministry had also already sanctioned 3,813 houses, he said.
The Union Ministry of Shipping had requested the administration to consider developing vacant land on the port premises into an entertainment hub on public private partnership model. The government would consider the Ministry’s request, he added.
